Tasman Women Awards

Winners are Grinners - Following an historic first win in the Farah Palmer Cup, 24 – 12 over Hawkes Bay, the Tasman Women held their inaugural Season Awards. Recipients were Jess Foster, Rosie Buchanan – Brown, Hannah Gillespie & Wairakau Greig.

Makos News & Awards

Two of our Mako men secured their 50 Games Blazer this season. Vernon Fredericks (Mako # 81) earned his against Otago while Billy Guyton (# 113) brought up 50 against Auckland on the weekend.

Meet the coaches

Leo Crowley joined us this season as the assistant coach with the Makos. He’s from the ‘Naki where he coached provincial rugby and has also had Rugby World Cup coaching experience with Canada.

Leon MacDonald is in his second year as Head Coach of the Tasman Makos, having been assistant coach from 2011-2015. Leon brings huge experience to our set up on the back of a storied playing career and coaching gigs with NZ Under 20’s and the Crusaders.

Andrew Goodman is the TRU skills coach and an assistant coach with the Makos. In his second year on the coaching staff, Goody is a local Mako legend (# 33) having played 55 games, been captain and scored 291 points.

Ambassador for Prostate Cancer Awareness, Buck will share about his passion to see men getting healthy and living longer particularly after his own cancer experience this Sept 8 in Blenheim and Sept 9 in Nelson.

Greg Somerville is our Tasman Makos set piece coach. A 66-test All Blacks prop from 2000 until 2008, Greg also has a role as the Tasman Rugby Union’s resource coach.

The First Ever All Blacks Test in Nelson

The All Blacks will play their first test match at Nelson’s Trafalgar Park on 8 September 2018 as part of the 2018 Investec Rugby Championship, playing against Argentina.


Our squad finished off the pre-season with an emphatic 54 – 33 victory over Wellington in an entertaining match in Seddon last Thursday.
