Former All Black and Crusaders lock Chris Jack has signed with Tasman for two years.
Tasman chief executive Peter Barr has confirmed that Jack, who has played his recent rugby for Saracens in the United Kingdom and Western Province in South Africa, will join Tasman from next year.
Barr said: “Tasman is the last province Chris played for in New Zealand and he made a real impact for us both on and off the field. Chris wanted to play for the Makos whenever his All Black commitments allowed and it’s just great to have him back as he was very popular here.”
Jack’s signing will make him available for the Crusaders, a team he played 89 games for between 1999 and 2007.
Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder, Tasman’s former director of rugby, said: “There’s no substitute for experience and Chris will add a lot to a Tasman team which has been performing very well. He still has ambitions to make the All Blacks and his character and drive will be great for rugby in Tasman.”
Jack, 31, made his All Blacks debut against Argentina in Christchurch in 2001 as a 22 year old and played 67 Tests in all. His last match for the All Blacks was the World Cup quarter-final loss to France in Cardiff in 2007.
