Waimea College showed their dominance by winning both the Tasman secondary schools senior and junior sevens titles at Tahunanui on Sunday.
Queen Charlotte College topped pool A in the senior competition with some resounding victories over the Nelson College Enforcers (21-14), Garin College (37-0) and Waimea College A (17-7), who finished runner-up in the pool.
In pool B, Waimea College B were too strong for the Nelson Power Rangers (34-0) and Greymouth High School (26-12) but were tested by a Waimea under-18 team, drawing 12-all.
Greymouth started slowly but gained momentum to account for the Nelson Power Rangers (22-0) and Waimea under-18 (19-10) to earn a semifinal spot.
In the semifinals, Waimea B finally succumbed to the power of their A team, with Waimea A running out 26-10 winners. Queen Charlotte and Greymouth traded try for try in the other semifinal, with Queen Charlotte finally finishing eventual 17-12 winners.
Waimea A reversed their earlier pool result against Queen Charlotte College to win a hard-fought final 17-10.
A similar situation unfolded in the junior competition, with the Waimea juniors reversing their form in an earlier match-up with Nelson Blue to win the final 14-7. Queen Charlotte finished third, beating Nelson Black in the playoff.
The event was hosted by the Tasman Rugby Union and Sport Tasman.
