Consistency seals title for Waimea
17-Apr-2008

Nelson

The Waimea College Green team performed consistently to claim the Tasman secondary schools rugby sevens senior title with a 22 - 0 win over Nelson College in the final.

The tournament returned this year after a year's break, with Sport Tasman and the Tasman Rugby Union combined forces to host the tournament at Tahunanui Playing fields on Sunday.

Twenty teams contested the event, with the junior grade providing the closest matchups, with some quality performances from the Waimea teams, Garin, Motueka and Nayland. Golden Bay made the trip over the hill, although not registering a win, demonstrated some committed performances.

Nelson College 3 won the junior title, beating Marlborough Boys College 31-0 in the final.

The senior grade included Garin, Marlborough Boys, Nayland College (under-16 and under-18 teams) and the Harlequins, Pirates and Gold teams from Waimea teams. Waimea Green and Nelson both reached the final unbeaten with Waimea emerging a deserving winner.
