Tietjens names sevens trial squad

New Zealand Sevens Coach Gordon Tietjens has named a squad of 27 players to try out for the national team.

The players will be put through their paces at a four-day trial camp, starting at Mt Maunganui on January 17.

The 2008 New Zealand Sevens contracted squad will be named prior to next month's NZ Sevens tournament in Wellington.

New Zealand Sevens squad members from 2007, Charles Baxter, Jarek Goebel and Willie Rickards did not attend the national sevens tournament over the weekend due to injury and were not considered for the trial.

New Zealand Sevens trial squad: Frank Afeaki (North Harbour), Ben Allen (Hawke’s Bay), Tomasi Cama (Manawatu), Edwin Cocker (Auckland), Israel Dagg (Hawke’s Bay), Mike Davis (Northland), David Falealili (North Harbour), DJ Forbes (Auckland), Jason Hona (Bay of Plenty), Nigel Hunt (Wellington), Tafai Ioasa (Hawke’s Bay), James Kamana (Waikato), Solomon King (Bay of Plenty), Zar Lawrence (North Harbour), Kenny Lynn (Southland), Tim Mikkelson (Waikato), Ben Nowell (Canterbury), Michael Pehi (Wellington), Afeleke Pelenise (Tasman), Lote Raikabula (Manawatu), Rene Ranger (Northland), Nemia Soqeta (Taranaki), Chad Tuoro (Counties Manukau), Nafi Tuitavake (North Harbour), Victor Vito (Wellington), Josh York (North Harbour) and Steven Yates (Canterbury).
